TOPIC | Mindfulness
an often used term and one that typically carries esoteric, other-worldly connotations with it;
however, the practice of mindfulness can be quite practical when viewed through the six sense doors
the Satipatthana Sutta, also known as the Buddha's Discourse on the Establishing of Mindfulness,
notes six sense doors as part of the fourth foundation of mindfulness, those being:
(i) eyes (ii) ears (iii) nose (iv) tongue (v) body (vi) mind
how mindful are we when ingesting and digesting media in each of these sense doors; i.e.,
(i) sights (ii) sounds (iii) smells (iv) tastes (v) touch (vi) thoughts
how wise and appropriate are the sense-media that we are taking-in and how discerning are
we being with these sense-media ... are they adding to our health, happiness, and well-being
( or ) are they simply providing us with pleasurable distraction to avert an unpleasant present moment
we will discuss practical examples for each of the sense doors (i) visual images (ii) auditory stimuli
(iii) olfactory sensations (iv) food (v) physical sensations (vi) thoughts ... the fetters that arise in
dependence on them, the abandonment of the arisen fetters, and the future non-arising of these fetters
